Dr. Wale Aboyade is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and a renewable energy leader with over 20 years of experience across engineering, research, innovation, policy, and commercial delivery in Africa’s energy sector.

He is currently Global Vice President for Public Policy and Government Relations at Sun King, where he leads strategic policy engagements across African markets, with a focus on universal energy access, distributed solar, and enabling policy reform.

South Africa has been central to Wale’s professional journey. He previously held research and energy policy roles at University of Cape Town and University of Johannesburg. During his time at the University of Johannesburg between 2012 and 2014, he was an early contributor to SAPVIA and participated in the Grid Access and Rooftop PV sub-committees.

Wale later led the South Africa Climate Innovation Center and subsequently held senior roles with USAID and GEAPP. At GEAPP, he contributed to South Africa’s energy transition agenda, including support for the repurposing of the Komati Power Station and development of renewable energy workforce training initiatives.

He holds degrees from Lund University and Stellenbosch University (PhD, Chemical Engineering) and is recognised for bridging policy, innovation, and delivery to advance inclusive clean energy solutions.
